One more thing.

Oh yeah, in other news...

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hwlpMzO2z0voECw2T4MfOPkOEXNAD94E0LB80

There's now a cure for AIDS.

!!!!!!!!!

Now granted, it costs a lot of money, it won't work for everyone, you need an ultra-rare compatible donor, and you have a 30% chance of dying during the procedure, but this is amazing. The possibilities for new research are really exciting.

The prospect of curing diseases via gene therapy is awesome, coupled with the fact that President-Elect Obama wants to overturn Bush's needlessly anti-intellectual executive order banning research using new stem cell samples.

WHY ISN'T THIS GETTING MORE NEWS COVERAGE???!?

A video game where you hit girls and their clothes fall off. There's also battle Raper 2.

Now, Hentai games are nothing new, but this one deserved special mention because it's logo promises

"Hyper Realaction!"

...

On that note, tomorrow I go to Vegas.

White People?

I saw some of friends on LJ found a blog called "whatwhitepeoplelike". I thought it sounded funny, so went to look at how I compared with John Q Whitey.

I divided my responses into either "yes" for things that I liked or that applied to my life, and "no" for that which didn't or I had little opinion on. Some of the concepts were foreign or asinine, so I put "huh?", "wft?', "Wayne Brady!", etc. for shit that makes little sense, which pretty much translates to a "no", but was too annoying to dignify with a binary response.

* #93 Music Piracy - yes
* #92 Book Deals - yes (who wouldn't want one?!)
* #91 San Francisco - no (never been)
* #90 Dinner Parties - yes
* #89 St. Patrick’s Day - no
* #88 Having Gay Friends yes
* #87 Outdoor Performance Clothes - no
* #86 Shorts - no
* #85 The Wire - no (never seen)
* #84 T-Shirts - yes
* #83 Bad Memories of High School - no
* #82 Hating Corporations - yes
* #81 Graduate School - yes (in theory)
* #80 The Idea of Soccer - huh?
* #79 Modern Furniture - yes
* #78 Multilingual Children - yes
* #77 Musical Comedy - yes
* #76 Bottles of Water - no
* #75 Threatening to Move to Canada - no
* #74 Oscar Parties - no
* #73 Gentrification - no
* #72 Study Abroad - no
* #71 Being the only white person around - Colin Powell!
* #70 Difficult Breakups - no (!?)
* #69 Mos Def - yes
* #68 Michel Gondry - who?
* #67 Standing Still at Concerts - no
* #66 Divorce - no
* #65 Co-Ed Sports - yes
* #64 Recycling - yes
* #63 Expensive Sandwiches - yes
* #62 Knowing What’s Best for Poor People - no
* #61 Bicycles - yes
* #60 Toyota Prius - yes
* #59 Natural Medicine - no
* #58 Japan - yes
* #57 Juno - no
* #56 Lawyers - no
* #55 Apologies - huh?
* #54 Kitchen Gadgets - no
* #53 Dogs - yes
* #52 Sarah Silverman - yes
* #51 Living by the Water - yes
* #50 Irony - no
* #49 Vintage - no
* #48 Whole Foods and Grocery Co-ops - no
* #47 Arts Degrees - yes
* #46 The Sunday New York Times - no
* #45 Asian Fusion Food - yes
* #44 Public Radio - no
* #43 Plays - yes
* #42 Sushi - yes
* #41 Indie Music - Bryant Gumble!
* #40 Apple Products - yes
* #39 Netflix - yes
* #38 Arrested Development - yes (but don't watch tv)
* #37 Renovations - no
* #36 Breakfast Places - yes
* #35 The Daily Show/Colbert Report - yes (but don't watch tv)
* #34 Architecture - yes
* #33 Marijuana - no
* #32 Vegan/Vegetarianism - no
* #31 Snowboarding - no
* #30 Wrigley Field - no
* #29 80s Night - yes
* #28 Not having a TV - no
* #27 Marathons - no
* #26 Manhattan (now Brooklyn too!) - no
* #25 David Sedaris - wtf?
* #24 Wine - no
* #23 Microbreweries - no
* #22 Having Two Last Names - no
* #21 Writers Workshops - yes
* #20 Being an expert on YOUR culture - Wayne Brady!
* #19 Traveling - yes
* #18 Awareness - wtf?
* #17 Hating their Parents - no
* #16 Gifted Children - ???
* #15 Yoga - yes
* #14 Having Black Friends - yes
* #13 Tea - yes
* #12 Non-Profit Organizations - yes
* #11 Asian Girls - yes
* #10 Wes Anderson Movies - no
* #9 Making you feel bad about not going outside - Condoleezza Rice!
* #8 Barack Obama - yes
* #7 Diversity - yes
* #6 Organic Food - yes
* #5 Farmer’s Markets - yes
* #4 Assists - huh?
* #3 Film Festivals - yes
* #2 Religions their parents don’t belong to - no
* #1 Coffee - no

My total: Aprox. 43.

I found that this is not at all an accurate reflection of White people, unless you are an American Liberal/Progressive from either NY, CA, MA, or any other dyed in the wool blue state. The funny thing is that even though I am, less than half of these apply to me. Of further note, most of my extended blue-state white family would score even lower on this thing.

On second thought, after reading through the blog entries, the site is pretty dumb.

Between IKEA runs, parking permits, and wonderful thousand-dollar saving surprises at the DMV (owning a hybrid helps), the move has gone well. Still a few people I need to see (that means you, Alex!)

Looks like there may be some video projects on the horizon, but the distant, mirage-like horizon.
Justice a long time coming.

So back in January (on Martin Luther King day, to be exact) Omar and I drove up to Maine to visit solitryrefinmnt before she left for LA. We had an awesome time. On the way home that night, in a sleet storm we got into an accident with another car involving black ice and other elements beyond anyone's control. No one was hurt thankfully, save for my wallet. I was somehow found to be more than 50% at fault and 4 points were added to my insurance. My car insurance cost effectively doubled.

I appealed.

Challenging the call cost me $40 and took about 6 months. About a week ago I had my 5 minutes in court to explain my side of the story. Today I got a letter in the mail stating that I was not more than 50% at fault and the 4 points are to be removed from my policy. This also means that I will be receiving a retroactive refund from my insurance. I guess It's a fitting bookend, seeing how on Monday It will be my turn to head out to LA.

Busy weekend, busy week.

So this weekend we filmed all of principle photography for Foghorn studio's Daemon 3: Walking Darkness. The film is about a serial killer with OCD and is part three in the now trilogy of Daemon films, which can be seen at themfish.com

We started Friday night with two leisurely slayings and then went 16 hours straight of film shooting that involved hiking, tumbling down cliffs, dragging bodies uphill, and enduring all the mosquitoes and humidity one could ask for...and we looked good doing it, too.

One of our victims turned out to be a burlesque dancer who goes by the moniker of "Machete". She's performing at Ralph's this Friday as part of Jerkus Circus, so Joanne, Omar and I are gonna go catch her act.

Once I got home from filming at midnight, I was pleasantly surprised to find that our Battlestar Galactica film had at long last been posted online! Check it out here.

Finally, my landlord-to-be called me up and said his neighbors were getting rid of a bunch of stuff, so he grabbed it for me, including a sofa bed that's "way better" than the one already there, a 5 speaker surround sound system, 5-disc DVD player, 20" TV, and some other goodies. Score.

For this week, I have jobs to apply to, DVDs to burn, and preparations to make. Hopefully my car will be all fixed up, too. Huzzah.

BTW, this is my new favorite song.

Hey there

It’s about high time for a LJ entry.

First off, Work has been good and it looks like I’ll be taking a few courses through them, including a Mac OSX course and a Dreamweaver course. This counts as “job training” so it’s all paid for by the company.

My co-worker (we’ll call him by his alias Frank) and I have been keeping track of the more ridiculous usernames people have. Some recent favorites include:

- Dragonslayer
- Dragonmaster
- Vampireofthenorth
- Starwolf

We had been making Dragon slayer jokes for the past week, which culminated last night with my boss and I posting

all over his work area. On his phone. His walls. His mouse. Speakers. Keyboard. File cabinets. Chairs. Inside his disk trays. DVD burner (+ inside the disc tray). His water bottle, little T-shirt cut outs on the picture of his wife, etc. It was pretty funny. I know I’m gonna get Starwolf’d next week though when I’m not looking.

In other news, it looks like I may have someone not only to take my room in the apartment, but my roommate Brad’s as well. They want to move in this weekend. They are meeting with us to hand over the proper paperwork and checks. Lets hope this all works out so this lame ass saga can end.

On a completely different note, the Sci-Fi channel is holding a Battlestar Galactica video contest:
http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/videomaker
So my friends and I are trying to get a video made. We are looking at shoot dates of May 5th and 6th, and we need two female leads still. We also need a location that looks like the inside of a prison (no this is not Women in Cages. Should be awesome nonetheless.

Joanne and I saw the Aquateen movie. It was alright…not really worth the $10, but still funny.

Oh yeah, Zii should be done and online by the weekend.(!!!)

The Room Is Cursed.

WTF.

I found someone to take the room in my appartment.

She moved in on Saturday.

I asked her to sign and mail in the paperwork to make it offical on Monday (decided to take it on Wed). She said ok.

Today (Tuesday), she says she's found another place, and is moving out at the end of the week. She never mailed in the paper work.

Feels great to be a youth hostel.

Fuck you.

Brief updates and disjointed thoughts:

I finally found someone to take my room in my apartment! She’s moving in tomorrow. Awesome.

I already have about 1,200 miles on my car. I average just over 50 MPG. It’s amazing, the car tells you the mileage you’re getting in real-time. When I first started driving I was getting around 40 or so (still quite good), but after making some minor adjustments and paying attention to my driving habits, I’ve literally added 10 MPG to my daily commute.

My first paycheck turned out to be a little bit more than I expected. I guess I overestimated what the government would take out. This, coupled with the fact that my tax return is twice what I thought it would be means that saving money up for LA is going to be a bit easier. I expect to be heading out in September or maybe October.

Also, my uncle told me a friend of his with a “reasonably priced” single in a good neighborhood in LA is planning on moving out in mid-to-late summer. If the timing and the price is right, I may be moving in. Much like the Devil, it’s all in the details.

Joanne and I are going to see Oliver Twist at the ART on Sunday. I have no idea what it’s about. Bring on the culture.

Also, 300 in IMAX, Platoon and Casino Royale all rock your face.
Cache, not so much.

I got a B+

So I’m now an official Apple-certified Final Cut Pro…Pro. (kinda redundant). I got 70 out of 80 questions right, giving me a 87.5% (you need a minimum of 80% to pass).
I was expecting this GRE-level of security, with lockers to keep your cell phone in and sign-in/out sheets, etc.
Nope.
The testing center was like, Los Angeles laid-back. I was the only one testing at the time, the woman who ran the place came over when I walked in, knew who I was, set me up a half-hour early. I got to keep all my personal effects, didn’t sign in or out, and she’s like “ok, here ya go, um…don’t cheat, ok?”
Pretty cool, actually.
While I didn’t do quite as well as I had hoped, it’s a pass/fail exam, and I passed. Thanks to everyone who wished me sandwiches!
Unfortunately I only had a muffin, but it’s the thought that counts.

Goings-on:

So a lot has been happening in DangerForcia. The problem is, so much of it is up in the air. To separate the wheat from the tentative, let’s forgo mixing any additional metaphors and consult the following list:

Tangible:

1.) New Job
Yes folks, I have a new job at Lycos, and I start on Tuesday the 20th. To break it down for you, it’s more money, easier work, and better benefits. Voila.

Whoa…short list.

As of yet intangible:

1.) Final Cut Pro exam
This Thursday I’ll be taking my FCP exam to get Apple Pro-user level 1 (of a possible 2) certification. What does this mean, besides the fact that I now have a pretty solid ground-up understanding of the program? It means hopefully someday it will help me get a job USING said program. I also get entered into a national registry of FCP professionals. Pretty sweet…assuming I pass the 2-hour exam. Wish me luck and/or sandwiches.

2.) Buying a new car
It’s true, I’m enlarging my carbon footprint in the world by re-entering the automotive enclave, though not by much since I’ve decided to buy a Toyota Prius. In black.
It’s an expensive car certainly by my means, which is the reason why I’m….

3.) Getting a car loan
…Probably from Capital One, as they seem to have the best deal going. To finalize this, I must first go about…

4.) Getting my Credit Report
…Which probably isn’t terrific, since I’m (relatively) young and haven’t made any real sizable purchases. I don’t even have a credit card. Maybe all those bills I pay on time in my name will help? At any rate, I’m in full money-saving mode, which is why I’m…

4.) Moving back home
…With my parents to save cash. I’m actually really looking forward to it. While I’ll miss seeing people on a regular basis in Boston, there are still of course weekends. Lycos is pretty close to Boston, too.

So yes, a lot is going on. I’m feeling very “adult”, which is strange for someone moving back in with his folks, but hey….insert matter-of-fact-old-man-type-saying here. I like “That’s the bee’s knees!” and “Good enough for Granddad!” myself. What are your favorites?
